DESTRUCTIVE FIRES.

Auckland, This day. The buildings occupied by Mr Atkinson (jeweller) and Mr Cahill (draper), which were damaged in Sunday night's fire in Vic-toria-street, belonged to Mr J. W. James, builder, and were insured for £800 in the South British. Mr Harper lost £150 worth of goods, which were uninsured. Captain Field, of the Salvage Corps, got severely injured in one of his legs, and after bis retirement to get hia wound dressed a fracas arose between the Fire Brigade and tho Salvage Corps and a party of Navals, which will probably find solution in the Law Courts. Christciiurch, This day. A two-roomed cottage at Waltham was destroyed by fire on Sunday. It was insured for £90, and the furniture for £10, in the Standard office.
