NATIONAL LEAGUERS DEMAND AN IRISH PARLIAMENT. THE BRITISH OCCUPATION OF EGYPT. EGYPT NEARLY FREE FROM CHOLERA. LONDON. Septembor 16. The St. James Gazette denounces Lord Derby's coldness iv regard to annexation as almost insulting in its brevity. Tho Pall Mall Gazette asks that if mere treaties with native chiefs debar England from a policy of annexation, is there the least likelihood that other Powers will interpret such treaties in on equally strict manner ? It thinks that Lord Derby will probably spur tho colonies to more decisivo action in the matter. Septombor 17. Tho Morning Post, in reviewing tho annexation question, expresses the opinion that Lord Derby is not entitled to represent the colonies, and says that his recent despatch betrays a misconception as to they relations existing between Australia ancl England, and at present it is impossible to predict of what duration the union with Australia will be. It adds that Australia has acquired the right to determine what measures are necessary for her own protection, and that those colonies will (in a similar way to America) soon be obliged to protect themselves. Egypt is nearly free from cholera. September 18. The recent Act cancelling seventy-fivo millions pf the National Debt, and exchanging it for annuities, is being put in force.
