PORT OF NAPIER

ARRIVALS

September. 13 Taiaroa, s.s., from Oamaru and vveilington. Passenger—Mr Foreman. It—Kiwi, 8.5., from the coast.

The Union Company's s.s. Taiaroa, Capt. Parsons, from Wellington and Oamaru, arrived in tho bay shortly before 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon, and was at once attended for mails and passengers by the launch Boojum, and for cargo by the s.s. Sir Donald. The mails, &c, were successfully transhipped to the launch, but the sea in tho bay was too heavy to allow the Sir Donald to lay alongside, and the Taiaroa's departure was in consequence postponed until this afternoon. She reports having loft Oamaru at 8.30 p.m. on the 10th, passed Akaroa heads at 8 a.m. on the 11th, and arrived at Wellington at 6.30 p.m. on the 12th ; left again at 4 p.m. same date, and arrived at anchorage as above. Experienced light head winds with mnooth seauntil leaving Wellington thence to arrival strong south-east wind with heavy swell. The Sir Donald tendered her again this morning, and got the whole of her cargo for this port, landing it at tho breastwork by midday. Tho Taiaroa steams for Gisborne, Tauranga, and Auckland at 1 p.m. this day. The steamer Kiwi, Captain Campbell, returned to port from the coast at noon today to procure a fresh supply of provisions. She has a largo quantity of coastal cargo on board, which her captain wishes, if possible, to laud before going on to Wellington. The Union Company's s.s. Tarawera, Captain Sinclair, left Auckland for the South at 12.30 p.m. yesterday, is due at Gisboruo to-day, and will be in our roadstead early to-morrow morning. She will be tendered as usual for mails, passengers, and cargo, some 20 tons, proceeding- on her voyage for Southern ports and Melbourne at 2 p.m. The steamers Maori and Manaia are still detained in port by the prevalent southerly "weather.

Up to the time our report left the Spit no advice had been received as to the movoments of tho s.s. Southern Cross. Sho is expected however, to arrive hero from Gisborno by to-morrow morning, and her time of departure for Wellington has been fixed at noon to-morrow.
