A ROWDY LEGISLATURE.
Tho Pennsylvania Legislature (writes the Alta California of Juno 20) has always borno tho reputation of being tho most turbulent and disorderly in the country, and its rowdyism comes out strongly in flic closing hours of the session. The Legislature Avhich has just adjourned in that State is no objection to the rule. Its closing hours Avere not marked by free fights among the members, such as have occurred in former years, when spittoons Avere thrown and heads broken, but the confusion could not have been greater, or the members more undignified or rowdyish. Iv tho House the members began the fun by throwing paper balls, bills, and files. Most of these missiles Avero aimed at the member avlio whs in the chair acting as Speaker, his desk being almost buried in the accumulating debris. In one corner a group of members Avere singing songs. A darkey was detected asleep in the gallery, and a bucketful of flour thrown in his face. At last a daring member climbed up into a gallery over the head of tho Speaker, and threw down a mattress, which completely buried th« august conservator of peace and order. Then another joker poured a pitcher of ice water down the Speaker's back, wetting him from head to foot. Tliis, not unnaturally, made the Speaker mad, and v. hat happened then mu.t be told in the graphi. language of the correspondent of the- I'm! .- delphia Times:—"He bounded ou» oi th. chair as if he had been shot. GenTner. v.no is lame, made poor down the stairs. Maekin caught, him i/,iiiinu <\<,nti Avith the pitcher in bin hand. JJe gr.i.\>\>. , A Centner by the throat, and it wo re he would kill him on the spot. Several mcml. . . grabbed Machin, and it required all their strength to hold the infuriated fct„te;rman. In tho melee, Maekin got Gen Leer's, thumb between his teeth an. bit it s.evereJy. Jt was found neeew-.ary to lock Centner up in the Post-office for a time to keep him away from the drenched representative from the Sixth Ward. Maekin made a lively ....cue while it lasted, and for thr only lime during the night the hall wa.-i filled with o.'-.tbs and threats."
