THE WRECK OF THE ALMA.— FURTHER PARTICULARS.
Auckland, This day. Captain James O. Patterson and the crew, consisting of six men, of the threcmnsted schooner Alma, arrived at Whangaroa in a small open boat on Friday last. They report the total wreck of the vessel on a coral reef three hundred miles from tin? coast of Queensland. The reef is only visible at high water, and v marked in the chart as Elizabeth. The vessel struck at midnight, and next morning the barque Afton', bound for Portland, Oregon, hove in sitrht. Signals were made, and she bore down to them and took them on board, landing them on tho coast of North Mongonui. Tho Alma was on a voyage from Wanganui to Rockhampton, laden with timber. Had not the barque Afton so providentially appeared, the crew might have endured uToat hardships, as the fresh water was all spoilt with salt. Captain Patterson and his crow speak highly of Captain Gilnior and tho crew of the Afton for the kindness shown them. The longboat, oars, sail, and compass were sold by auclion on Tuesday, 21st instant, when they fetched £7 11s.'
