FIREMAN OF A GOODS TRAIN SHOT DEAD.

Dunedin, This day. As the 10 o'clock goods train from Clinton for Invercargill Avas nearing Wair una last night, John Henderson, a fireman, Avas shot dead by a man unknown from the bank alongside the line. The train put back to Clinton. The brakesman and driver Avere also on the engine at the time. Henderson leaves a Avife and family, Avho reside at Invereargill. There is no clue to the indontitv of the murderer. Later. No fresh information in reference to tho murder is to hand. Guard Duncan says he saw two flashes, and immediately after the second the deceased threw up his arms, exclaiming "Oh, Peter," to Peter the driver of the engine, and expired. Those on the train became frightened, extinguished all the lights, and backed the train to Clinton. Inspector Weldon and two detectives, proceeded to Clinton this morning.
