Intelligence has been received here from Port Elizabeth that the Phcoiiix Park informer, James Carey, was shot dead yesterday on board tho steamer Melrose by a

man named O'Donnell, who had been a fellow passenger with him from London. The attack was a very sudden one, and Carey died instantly of the wound received.
