CORRESPONDENCE.

ST. PAUL'S MANSE,

[To the Editor of the Daily Telegraph.] Sir,—On reading the report of last night's meeting at St. Paul's I was struck with the position in which the congregation appear to stand with regard to the Manse. It seems that Mr Sidey claims the Manse even after ho resigns his connection with a the church, but that he is willing to take £50 a year in lieu thereof. Now, I was always under the impression that the Manse was the property of the Church, and kept for tho use of the presiding minister. From Mr Sidey's remarks, however, and the tenor of the resolution agreed to, it would appear that this is a mistaken and that tho Church will have to provide a new dwelling for every incoming minister. The Manse is worth somowhere about £1000, and it seems an extraordinary thing that the congregation should be obliged to pay Mr Sidey £50 a year for tho privilege of keeping it. Perhaps some one acquainted with the law of the church in the matter will enlighten a large proportion of the congregation.—l am, &c, A Member. Napier, July 3, 1883.
