PORT OF NAPIER. ARRIVALS. June. M—Southern Cross, s.s., from Oainaru and Wellington. The Union Sto.'tmahip Company's s.s. Southern Cross, Captain Alltnan, arrived in tho roadstead from Wellington and the South at 1.30 p.m. yesterday after a smart run from the former port of about 21 hours. Reports that, after passing Cape Pallisor, encountered a heavy southerly gale, which last until her arrival here. She was boarded by tho pilot on arrival, and was shortly afterwards borthed inside at tho breastwork, where she discharged her cargo, sonic 150 tons, during yesterday afternoon and this morning. Sho was to havo taken her departure for Gisborne and Auckland at 3 p.m. this day. The .steamer Maori, Captain Anderson, is to got awny for Wuii-o.i nt 2 o'clock tomorrow morning, taking a full cargo. Tho steamer Te Anau, Captain Carey, is telegraphed as having left Auckland at 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon for Southern , port., Hobart, and Melbourne, and should arrive here by daylight to-morrow morning. She will be tendered as usual for mails and passengers by the Boojum, and by the lighters for her inward cargo, some 2-3 tons, and with a large quantity of tallow and preserved meats for transhipment to the lonic at Lytt.lton. The outward passengers are announced to leave the wharf for the Te Anau at 2 p.m. The brigantino Enterprise, Captain Bell, has cleared at the Customs with a cargo of timber and fencing posts for Dunedin, and expects to got away on this afternoon's tide. The p.s. Manaia will steam far Wairoa at 12 o'clock to-night, should a more favorable report of the bar be received during this afternoon. The Union Company's s.s. Tarwera, Captain Sinclair, is expected to leave Wellington at about 3 or 1 o'clock this afternoon for Northern ports, and should arrive here in good time to-morrow morning. Auckland, This da}-. The Orient Company's steamer Austral was signalled shortly after 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Sho came slowly up the gulf, and anchored off Rangitoto Reef. The Austral reports having left Sydney on tho Oth instant for Glasgow direct via Cape Horn. Had fine weather the first twentyfour hours, then a strong breeze from tho south, increasing to a heavy gale on the 11th with heavy beam sea, aud arrived here as already telegraphed. Capt. Sladc, R.N., formerly of the Garonne, is in command, and reports that ho was intending to put into the Bay of Islands to do the necessary setting up of the rigging and overhauling the machinery, which he was unable to do outside owing to the heavy beam sea, but the weather being thick and squally ho .preferred to coino on to Auckland to do the necessary repairs. The vessel herself is completely gutted, no attempt having been mado to put her in her former style and condition. The machinery since leaving Sydney has worked splendidly, and the vessel proved herself in as good a seagoing order as before her submergence Externally her appearance presents no unusual characteristics, and it is only on going below that tho havoc which has been caused by her many months' submergenco under water can bo seen and understood. The Austral leaves to-day at noon. Her crew numbers 130 hands, under the medical charge of Dr. Westport, formerly wellknown iv the New Zealand trade in the ship Hermione. Wellington, This day. The steamor lonic sailed for Lyttelton at 5 o'clock last evening. Nelson, This day. The steamor St. Kilda, in coining into the harbor lato on the ebb tide yesterday, grounded on the point of tho boulder bank opposito tho Arrow rock. She got off, howover, at 4 o'clock this morning without iustaiiiing any damage.
