Dunedin, This day. At a meeting of the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce and the consignees interested in regard to tho goods shed fire, several speakers, including the Hon. Mr Reynolds, expressed the opinion that the Government were liable as common carriers, and also through having neglected to take proper precautions against tire. A oommitteo was appointed to ascertain the position of tho consignees in regard to the fire, and to take legal advice, if necessary. The following resolution was also carried: —"That our representative, Mr H. S. Fish, junr., bo requested to apply to the Government to havo all wooden sheds in the railway department now erected and about to bo erected removed at once, and stone buildings substituted for the protection of merchant's goods." An inquest on the fire will take place on Monday.
