FIRE AT TIMARU.

Timaru, This oay. • At 1 o'clock this morning a fire broke out

in an unoccupied three-roomed house in Sophia-street, behind Parsons' foundry. The brigade were promptly on the spot, and extinguished the flames in a short time. The circumstances are very suspicious, tar and kerosene having boon plentifully poured out on the floor and walls, the fire evidently being kindled in three places simultaneously. The house was only damaged, not destroyed, thanks to the promptitude of the brigade. It was owned by J. Parsons', senr., ironfounder, and was insured in tho Liverpool and London office for £200. The police are investigating the circumstances.
