ADELAIDE.
Thursday. The South Australian Parliament was opened to-day by Sir William Robertson, tho Governor, who, in his speech on the occasion, expressed gratification at the cordial reception accorded" by the people of Adelaide on his arrival in tho colony. In the course of his speech His Excellency announced that papers relating to the result of the conference upon the postal union would be laid on tho table at an early date. In view of the importance of the question of the annexation of Now Guinea, the Government had telegraphed to the Secretary of State for the Colonies with the view of securing a ratification of the action of Queensland. Ho trusted that the Parliament and people of South Australia would endeavour to promote the success of the international exhibition at Adelaide in 1880, the anniversary of the jubilee of the foundation of the colony. The Laud Act of last session had succeeded in relieving selectors, but a bill would bo introduced to enable selectors to terminate their agreements and enter anew under the Act referred to. The speech announced that a bill would be introductd to authorise the subdivision of the colony into districts, to promote the conservation of water. His Excellency anticipated that the revenue returns would fully equal the estimated receipts. Railway construction was progressing very favorably, and a bill would be introduced to provide for a further extension of the lines.
