The proceedings passed off Avithout disturbance. May 29. Mr Gladstone has convoked a meeting of the Liberal party for to-day to take into consideration the present state of business j in the House of Commons. In the House of Commons to-day Mi Gladstone announced that tho Government Avould abandon tho London Municipal Government Bill. The Premier added, however, that measures relating to corruption and bribery at elections, tenant farmer's compensation, bankruptcy, codification of criminal knvs, criminal appeal, and patents, Avould be insisted upon and pressed forward as fast as possible. At the wool sale yesterday 10.000 bales Avere offered, aud thcro was a fair demand. At to-day's salo 12,000 bales Avere offered, and there was good eompetitijn. Greasy avools are neAV -id to Id higher than at the close of last sales. Faulty fcoured is M lower, and loav cross-breds are -kl lower. Fleece wools are in favor of buyers. The homeAvard mails per Garonne, from Melboi.r.ic on April 18th, a. ere delivered today via Naples. The first portion of tho cargo of frozen mutton, ex British King from Lyttelton, was placed ou the market to-day, and realised Ofd per pound. Part of the shipment has been found to have been hastily frozen before being placed on board. May 30. The population of Tipperary are organising a demonstration in favor of Archbishop Croko, Avho was recently rebuked by the Pope for taking part in political affairs. In tho House of Commons list night the Tenant Farmer's Compensatbn Bill Avas again under discussion, and was read a second time before the house adjourned. Telegrams arc to hand reporting that the anti- Jewish agitation at Rostoff, in Russia, continues. The Jewish quarter of the town has been plundered and burnt, and hundreds of Jews have been driven from their homes. The Standard to-day states that Earl Derby has decided to decline to annex New Guinea as a Ciwn colony, but will permit the establishment of a feiv trading stations on the coast of that island opposite Torres Straits.
