Nominations for the vacancy in tho Borough Council for the South Ward will be received at the Town Clerk's office up to noon to-morrow. The drawing for Mr Brandon's art union of pictures of New Zealand scenery takes place at 3 o'clock to-morrow afternoon. Mr Ryan holds an important sale of furniture and household effects at his mart to-morrow at 11 a.m. sharp. Messrs Miller and Potts sell by auction at their offices, Waipawa, at 11 a.m. tomorrow, without reserve, several town sections at Ormondville with houses thereon, and the balance of the book debts in the estate of Newton and Johnson.
Tho great victory sweep on the Melbourne Cup, ISS3, is now open at Melbourne, by which a [colossal fortune of £3000 can be obtained for half-a-erown.
Mr 0. R. Taylor, Hastings, is selling off for one month the wholo of his stock of boots and shoes for cash at less than wholesale prices. The committee of the Taradale ploughing match society announce that they have convenient paddocks at Taradale free of charge, for tho use of plough horses coming from a distance.

In the event of there being- only two entries for the treble furrow class at Taradale and Hastings ploughing matches matches reduced prizes will be given, and if more the prizes originally announced. A special prize is offered to Mr Brown, of Hastings, for the best kept harness. The Loyal United Friends hold a meeting iv tho Taradale school-room to-morrow evening for the puposc of opening a branch lodge of the order in Taradale.
