FIRES.

Auckland, This day. A fire broke out at -1.30 yesterday morning in the premises of Mr Clifford, herbalist. The fire is supposed to have originated in the consulting room, among some chemicals. The shop was damaged and the stock completely destroyed. The stock was insured for £200 in the Colonial office, but there is a loss of £100 over that amount. CunisxcnuncH, This day. Early yesterday morning a door-mat at the Central Hotel was perceived by a constable to be on fire. He broke open the door and speedily extinguished the flames. A serious fire was thus prevented.
