ENQUIRY INTO THE STRANDING OF A SCHOONER.
Oamaiu", This day. A preliminary enquiry into the stranding of the schooner Friendship was held hero yesterday by the Collector of Customs. Evidence was given to the effect that the vessel was driven to this port by stress of weather, and that the accident occurred through a sea striking the rudder aud smashing the wheel before the vessel had reached shelter. Tho harbor-master stated that owing to the heavy sea no boat could out to render assistance. The vessel was insured for £300.
