PRINCE NAPOLEON AND EUGENIE.
The London Times on February 15th published an authoritative statement regarding* an interview on the day preceding between the ex-Emperor Eugenic and Prince Jerome Napoleon, which, it says, has cleared up some private misunderstanding existing between the ex-Empress and the Prince, and has led to a formal resingnation by the latter as head of the Bonaparte family. The ex-Empress Avas not called on to express an opinion of her kinsman's general policy. She assured her cousin of her best wishes for any constitutional action he may take towards bringing about jdehArAr. - '
The visile of the ex- Empress fo Paris was a mark of sympathy Avitli Prince Napoleon, on account of his illegal arrest, not iv respout fo ihc views of his manifesto. dained participation in any unlawful or clandestine enterprise against the Republic. The Prince on his part states that if the popular A'ote slioavs a preference for a Republic he will boAv to it. The Republic has never yet, he says, polled a clear majority of registered electors, and he states it is therefore governing by virtue of popular apathy. If the Prince is banished he may come to London. He has no intention of abdicating his position in favor of his son. The latter Avas not privy to the issue of the manifesto, but there is no antagonism between father and son.
