SOUTHERN CROSS PETROLEUM COMPANY.
(Gisborne Herald, March 12.)
We hear that Mr Stubbs, tho general manager of the company, together with the party of gentlemen who accompanied him, returned from tho works this morning. There is little work doing just now owing to want of curbs; there are two lots on board two vessels on the coast, and so far neither has been able to land them. This is much to be regretted. In the meantime the men are clearing and repairing the road, and such other work as requires doing. We hear it is the intention of the company to get a practical oil borer as soon as possible. This is a step in the right direction, as tho strata in the shaft is such as will stand drilling; the present method is too slow ancl costly. The party had extremely bad weather, bad roads, and swollen rivers to negotiate.
