March 12. The death is auuounced to-day of Prince Gortschakoff, the well - known Russian statesman, aged 85.
March 13. An inquest is taking place on the body of te late Prince Gortschakoff, owing to sus-
picions that the deceased met Avith his death through poison. Tho inquiry is not yet finished. Makoff, a Russian statesman, has committed suicide. There are suspicions that he had been guilty of peculations in tho Government service, of which he was State Secretary.
April sittings, of the Supreme Court, but none are of a serious nature.
Despatches have been received from the Secretary of State for the Colonies intimating that Her Majesty will not bo advised to exercise her power of disallowance in respect to airy of tho Acts passed by the New Zealand Legislature last session. Another despatch has also been received specially assenting to the Amnesty Act, the West Coast Peace Preservation Act, and the Waikato Confiscated Lands Act.
His Excellency the Governor has issued a warrant fixing Tuesday, tho 20th instant, as the day for the opening of the shooting season for native game, instead of the 22nd instant.
