REPORTED AURIFEROUS GOLDFIELD IN HAWKE'S BAY.

It is not generally known that a gentleman residing at Hastings discovered somo eight months ago what he believed to be an auriferous quartz reef in this provincial district. With the view of thoroughly testing the value of his discovery he engaged tho services of one or two practical men from the Thames gold field, and for tho last cix months earnest work has been quietly carried on, and it is whispered that most satisfactory results have been obtained. We are not at liberty to say anything more at present, but probably in the course of a few days, the public will be put in possession of news which to say the least will be of a sensational character.
