HAWKE'S BAY JOCKEY CLUB RACES.
The annual autumn meeting of the above club commences to-monw, the first race starting at 12.30 p.m. The opening- event on the card is the Maiden Plate, for which six horses have cried content. Tor this Otupapa and Frederica are the favorites. I name for choice, the former. For the Welter Handicap only five can face the flag. This, should ho start, ought to be Canard's victory of the day. The big event on the card, and about ivhich- a good deal of money will change hands, is the Napier Handicap. Thirteen horses have accepted, but perhaps not more than eight (it the outside will start. I name Leonora as the most likely winner, but between her, Luna, and Libeller, there is not much to choose. I should say these three for places. Amongst tho babies running for_ the Nursery Plate Eobina is not to be despised. The Railway Stakes will close the day's sport, with, I think, Lima or Minerva first past the post. The following , horses have been scratched for all engagements: —New Year, Neptune, and Never Miss. Artist has been scratched for the Nursery Plate. It is reported that Buzzard will not put in an appearance at all. Head-Ovke-Tip.
