Mr Thomson, the British Secretary at Teheran, has accompanied an exploring party into the grassy plains of the steppes of south-east Russia, and while pursuing their explorations the party were attacked by the natives, but they fortunately managed to escape without receiving any serious injury. The Turcomans aro making a formidable demonstration against Russian encroachments in Central Asia. They are now investing the town of Geok Tope, which ivas taken from the Turcomans by General Skobeloff in January, 1881, with a force 7000 strong.
