DUNEDIN AUTUMN RACES.
[liV TELEGRAPH.] Dunedin, Thursday. The attendance at the races was about -1000, the weather being dull and a great contrast to the Cup day. The following were the results : — TALLY-HO HVRDLES. A handicap of SO soys. Mr Smith's GangAwa, u<x<:d, Bst 7lb .. 1 Mr Lunn's Whitback, Cyrs., lOst .. 2 These were the only starters. Gang Awa won easily at the finish. CITY STAKES HANDICAP. A sweepstakes of 5 soys each, with 200 soys. added : for two-year-olds ; five furlongs. Mr Stephenson's b c Hyacinth, by St. Alban.s-Black Bess, 7st 51b (Butter) 1 Mr SounmWs Water Nymph, Bst 51b (Thompson) .. .. .. .. 2 Hon. W. Robinson's Bai'uaby. Sst 31b (Derrit-t) .. .. " '.. .. ; 5 These were the only starters. Betting, stolon Water Nymph. The three were despatched to a very uneven start, of which Hyacinth got all the best, and the St Aibans colt fairly romped homo as he pleased, a good race resulting for second place. Time, 1 miv. 4 sees. Of £000 in the totalizator £202 were on the winner. JOCKEY CLUI! HANDICAP. A sweepstakes of 5 soys each, with 300 soys added ; Iγ miles. Mr Horsfall's Kin" , Quail, aged, 7st 51b (Butler) .." 1 Hon. M'Lean's Lady Emma, jyrs, Sst (Allen) . . . . " 2 Mr Bate's The Poet, 7st (Londonelly) 3 —Sir Modred (f)st), Welcome Jack (Bst), Tiisinaii ("st 131b), and Adamant (7st 51b) also ran. Adamant had nearly a stone more weight than in the Cup race. All seven acceptors faced the starter for what undoubtedly proved to be the best race of the meeting. At the turn into the straight the second time the whole field were in a cluster, but Butler kept King Quail going, and won a desperate race lay a clear length. Lady Emma and The Poet almostiinished together, Welcome Jack a nose behind, with Tasmaii close up. Time, Smins. S.secs. The betting at the start was 2 to 1 on Tasman, 5 to 2 on Lady Emma, and 5 to 1 on the rest. NOVEL HACK, Of 100 soys. ; one mile. Messrs Mason and Vallance's Welcome Jack 3 years, Gst .. . . . . 1 Mr Stcphenson's Auroro, -1 years, Gst 101b " .. .. 2 •—Three others ran. but the race was between the two favorites. Time, linin. •lOsecs. SUBURBAN WELTER HANDICAP, A sweepstake of 3 soys., with 150 soys. added ; 1 mile and a furlong. Mr Stead's Leos, 3 years, 7st 'Jib .. 1 Hon. G. M'Leau's Gitaua, -1 years, 7st 41b 2 —The Poet, Iris, Violin, Matanaka, and Taiaroa also ran. The Poet was a great favorite, but Leos won by four lengths. Time, 2mins. 21 sees. The totalisator paid about 20 to 1. TRAMWAY PLATE, Of SO soys.; weight for age ; J mile. Mr Proudfoot's Sir Modred .. .. 1 Mr Bate's Minerva . . .. 2 —Three others ran, but the favorites had an easy victory. A private trotting match was run before the Novel Race between Mairund and Cock Robin for 200 soys., and was won by the latter. The amount put through the totalisators was £7-174.
