WAIPAWA COUNTY COUNCIL.

At the conclusion of the election of two "" members of the Harbor Board, a telegraphed report of which appeared in our columns yesterday evening-, the following ordinary business was proceeded with:— COIVRESPONDEICCE. From the Public Works Office, enclosing an agreement for £-100 for constructing a bridge over the Wainui river, and also voucher forms for progress payments. From the same, acknowledging receipt of application for funds due to works on the Seventy-mile Bush road. From the same (a telegram), stating that the applications of the Council under the Eoads and Bridges Construction Act had been apportioned in the following manner: —£22,518 had been applied for, and of this sum £11,259, or one-half, was granted. From this would have to be deducted the one-fourth to be provided by the Council, making , the net amount of the grant £8444. From Cr Johnston, "Wellington (a telegram), advising the Council to delay consideration of works under Roads and Bridges Act till next meeting. BRIDGES. It was moved by Cr Hunter, seconded by Cr Newman, and carried, that the overseer be instructed to prepare specifications for the proposed Porangahau bridge. Cr Bibby proposed, and Cr Hunter seconded, a similar motion in reference to the Mangaonuku bridge.—Carried. Cr Bibby also proposed, seconded by Cr Dillon, that specifications for a bridge over the Hampden creek be prepared.—Carried. At the_ suggestion of Cr Dillon the overseer was instructed to briugup at next meeting a plan for the repair of the Homewood bridge. Cr Smith moved that specifications be prepared for the Maimgawakahe bridge. Seconded by Cr Newman and earned. Cr Hunter moved that the overseer be instructed to engage the services of a com- . petent surveyor to survey the line of road * from Wallingford to Poraugahau. The motion was seconded by Cr Smith and carried. SLAUGHTER HOUSES. Cr Newman drew the attention of the Council to the lack of slaughter house supervision in the county, and at his suggestion the clerk was instructed to write to the clerk of the Hawke's Bay County asking for a copy of that body's by-laws in reference to abattoirs. METALLIXG CONTRACT. A letter from Mr G. Lines was read, in which the writer set forth reasons for declining to j>roceed with a contract, previously made by him with the Council, for work at Mataluwi. The overseer was instructed to let the work to the next lowest tenderer, and it was further resolved that Mr Lines' deposit be forfeited. The Council then adjoumod.
