This Day

(Before Captain Preecc, R.M.) XUIUXKI--.XXESS. Andrew Anthony, charged with having been drunk and disorderly at Taradale yesterday, pleaded guilty, and was fined 5s and costs, with the alternative of 48 hours' imprisonment. The fine was paid. Peter Crawford, a first appearance, charged with drunkenness, was dismissed with a caution on paying Is Gd, the coach fare from Taradale. John Crocker pleaded guilty to having been drunk at Napier yesterday, and was fined as and costs, with the usual alternative. FALSE I'KETEXCEs. Robert Francis Shannon was charged, on the'information of Margaret Raven, Avife of Charles Raven, publican, with having, on the ft th instant, at Napier, by means of unlawful and false pretences, obtained from the informant los of the moneys of Charles Raven aforesaid. The prisoner, who was undefended by counsel, pleaded not guilty. Sergeant, Burtensliaw applied for a remand until Monday. Prisoner : I would rather have the case gone on with to-clay, and I should like to know the reason why the Sergeant wishes to prolong it. Sergeant Burtensliaw said he had one or two witnesses to bring from the Spit, and as Shannon was only arrested last night at about 10 o'clock it was impossible to have the case ready this morning. The prisoner was then remanded until Monday at 10.30 a.m., and the Court rose.
