THE SHARE MARKET
Mr AY. G. Motley reports upon the t-porations of the .share market as follows : — During the past week a fair amount of business has been transacted. The shares principally sought after arc Union Insurance, South British, and National. I report sales Uidon at" 20/-, South 57/-, new issue 11/- and 11/3, and National 25/0. Napier Gas are still enquired for at £10, cum. div., sellers holding for £10 15/-. Petroleum shares remain quiet. I quote sales South Pacific promoters -3/6. . At the South Pacific works the new bore was down last Monday 130 feet, and the lost eightinch tubing was then being recovered by means of a clamp aud two screw-jacks. The latest report from the Cross (date January 27) states that the shaft was then down 207 feet, oil still exuding from tho bottom with strong ebullition of gas. It has been decided to take steps at the annual meeting on the 14th instant to remove the management of the Southern Cross Company to Christcliurch, and a sufficient number of influential men have been chosen to act on the proposed new board of directors.
