CRICKET.
England v. Australia.
[by cable.] Sydney, Saturday
The international cricket match was resinned to-day. Rain fell during the night and for several hours in the morning, and the ground was consequently not in good order. It had been arranged that a fresh wicket should be used for each innings, and when the Australians commenced batting yesterday evening they did so on a new wicket, but this was very heavy when they resumed to-day, owing to the rain winch had fallen. Notwithstanding the bad state of the weather there was a large attendance of spectators. Giffen (not out, 0) and Bannerman (not out, 1) resumed their places at the wickets and soon commenced to score rapidly, although the bowling of the Englishmen was very good. At the luucheon adjournment tho score stood at 72 without the loss of a wicket—Bannerman, 28 : Giffen, 40. Soon after lunch play was continued, and when Giffen had added one to his score he was stumped. The weather had been showery all day, but by this time heavy rain was falling and play was suspended. The downpour continued for two hours, and the wicket was thoroughly saturated. On play beiny resumed doch joined Bannerman, and they remained at the wickets until time was called, when the score stood as follows ; — Australians. —First innings. Giffen, stumped .. .. 41 Banuerman, not out .. .. 68 Murdoch, not out .. .. 17 Extras 7 Total for one wicket .. 133
