A public tea meeting will be held in the United Methodist Free Church, Carlylestreet, this evening, commencing at 6.30, in celebration of the opening of the church and district meeting. The valuation list of the Borough of Napier for the year 1883-1 is now open for inspection at the Town Clerk's office, and objections to same must be lodged on or before February 15. Shareholders in the Union Insurance Company are reminded by the agents, Messrs Banner and Liddle, that the seventh call was due and payable at the Union Bank on the l."3th instant, Rural lands in the counties of Cook find Wairoa will be open for selection on deferred payments at the Crown Lands Office, Auckland, on Thursday, February Ist. Several alterations are made in the list of pure-bred sheep to be sold by Mr M. R. Miller at the mm fair at Hastings on ■Wednesday, '21th instant, Mr Henry Lascelles' property at "West Olive, with dwelling-house and improvements, is for sale. Messrs Blythe and Co. are now showing ladies' knitted .shirts at reduced prices. The departure of the steamer Southern Cross for Wellington is. now fixed for o p.m. on Friday next.
