CORRESPONDENCE.
SLAUGHTER HOUSE LICENSES
[To TiiK Editor of the Daily Telegraph.] Sir,—By your report of the proceedings of the Hawke's Bay County Council to-day, I perceive that the Inspector of Slaughter Houses reports to the Council that I, among others, did not take out any slaughter license for the ensuing year. This report of the Inspector. I consider, is somewhat premature, for, in an advertisement signed by the County clerk, and inserted in your paper, it is stated that licenses fees woidd be received up to-morrow (Tuesday), consequently there was no necessity for said report. I paid my license fee at 2 p.m. today, thus complying with the official announcement. The presentation of such a report to the Council by the Inspector of Slaughter Houses, and "the publication of the advertisement by the County Clerk .stating that license fees would be received till to-morrow, betrays either carelessness or bungling in the management of county affairs ; 'at any rate the faults of the officials should not be placed upon the shoulders of unoffending tradesmen.—l am, ice, Francis Higgixs. Napier, January 15, ISB3.
