and decided to appoint delegates to confer with the operative bakers with a view to obviate the threatened strike in the trade. This day. The estimated yield of gold in the Victorian mines last year was 1,070,000 ounces, an increase of 180.000 ounces compared with the previous year. The report of the Police Commission, which has been issued, strongly condemns the working of the Detective Department. The officials of the latter consider the report grossly unfair.
