The ratepayers in the Meanee and Heretaunga Road Board districts hold meetings to-night, the former at the Oddfellows' Hall, Taradale, at 7 o'clock, and the latter
at the Town Hall, Hastings, at 8 o'clock, to consider the advisability or otherwise _of abolishing Road Boards and allowing County Councils to do the work in their stead. . The officers and members of the Napier Rifle Volunteers meet in the Council Chamber at 8 o'clock to-night, for the purpose of taking into consideration the new Volunteer Regulations under which they are now serving. Mr R. Vaughan requests the bakers ot Hastings and'surrounding districts to meet him at the Railway Hotel, Hastings, at 8 o'clock to-night, to consider whether an alteration in the present price of bread is advisable. A complimentary ball aud concert is to be tendered to Mr T. R. Gilpin on Wednesday evening next by the leading amateurs of Napier, and the" committee of management to carry out same is announced. Mr ' Rymer has extended his line _of coaches to Kuripapanga, and on and after the Kith instant a passenger coach will leave Newton's comer every Tuesday at 11 a.m., returning to Napier every Thursday morning. Mr Thayer, Hastings, informs the party who took a pocket-book containing money from his shop that if same is not _ returned by Saturday unpleasant proceedings will ensue. Mr C. M. Williams has been appointed travelling agent iv Hawke's Bay for the Australian Mutual Provident Society, and the advantages of this office to persons insuring their lives will be found in an advertisement in another column. Claims against the schooner Carl Graf Attems must be rendered to Mr Balharry, the local agent of the N.Z. Shipping Company by -1 p.m. to-morrow, or they will not be recognised. At Hoadley, Lyon and Co.'s land sale on Tuesday next, several sections at Taradale and Napier, iv addition to the properties already announced, will be offered for disposal by auction. Prices are 'quoted for the 'Mexican silverine which is being sold at Goodson's London Arcade in Hastings-street. Mr Scarfe, secretary to the Napier School Committee, invites tenders for erecting fence, levelling and preparing ground, ie, on the section adjoining the school. The finder of a small white seal stone, engraved with crest, lost yesterday, leaving same at office of this paper will be rewarded. A bay gelding, impounded at Taradale, will be' sold on the 2.3 th instant, unless redeemed before that time. Mr W. Rathbone, has just had landed his fifth shipment of goods for the season, which will be offered at juices to compete with any house in the province. Board and residence iv a private family is wanted.
