It is probable that the Czar of Russia v. ill visit London during the coming spring. Victor Hugo was present at the funeral of Louis Blanc. The route to the cemetery was lined with troops, with the view of preventing the occurrence of any disturbances. The disastrous nature of the fire at Kingston, in Jamaica, has been much exaggerated, aud the damage sustained is not nearly so heavy as was at first supposed. It has been ascertained that the fire was the work of an incendiary. It is announced that Sir Arthur Gordon will be again appointed High Commissioner of the Pacific. News from Cairo states that the Khedive is greatly disturbed at the prospect which awaits him on the withdrawal of the English troops from Egypt. He is also dissatisfied at the idea of ruling by the support of foreigners, and he has therefore determined to abdicate in favor of his eldest son, Abbas, who is only eight years of age, having been born on July 11, 1871. The Sultan is greatly alarmed cm ing to th c growing discontent which prevails throughout his dominions. The recent Ministerial changes have also added to the general unsettlemeut. It is believed that the Sultan will now assent to the reforms proposed by Said Pasha. The extent of the damage sustained through the fire at Hampton Court Palace has not yet been accurately ascertained. Fortunately the picture galleries, containing a superb collection of paintings, were saved from destruction. The tapestry in the state-rooms was not injured by the fire, but has suffcrerl considerable damage from the effects of the water thrown on it for the purpose of preventing the spread of the conflagration. The cook empoyed in the palace was suffocated before he could be extricated from the burning bmldiug. Intelligence has been received from Cairo that the annual Financial Statement has been prepared, and that the Egyptian Budget discloses a deficiency of eioo,ooo in th" amount required for the service of the year, including the payment of the various amounts due to the bondholders. Mampoer, the native chief who was put by the British Government into the place of Secocoeni, after his defeat by Sir Garnet Wolseley, and who was afterwards restored by the Boers when they had attacked and killed Secocoeni, has been captured by the Boers.
