WESTPORT.

December 18

The Reeident Magistrate to-day declared the whole of the late Mayoral election void upon petition. At the election the figures were Haselden 73, Carr 72, informal 8. The per centage of informal votes created surprise, and it was supposed that the returning officer bad disallowed papers which were crossed diagonally, and also others with a simple down stroke, instead of the name being erased horizontally. On a scrutiny by the R M. this proved to be the case in three instances, and hence the election waa declared void.
