December 16. Ou Thursday a man named George

Ruddick, working on M'Naught's farm, had occasion to visit the township. M'Naught was remonstrating with him for something, when Ruddick drew from his side pocket a six-barrelled revolver, which was found afterwards to be fully loaded. He aimed it at and threatened M'Naught, who, keeping very cool under such circumstances, quietly talked the man down. Ruddick, then left the township for the farm. He returned to Amberley, and wai arrested by Constable Watt, who upon searching the prisoner found the revolver, as before stated, loaded in all chambers.

At the meeting of the Grand Lodge of Good Templars at Rangiora on Thursday a resolution was passed levying a special assessment of 2d on each member per quarter to augment the Grand Lodge fend so as to allow the work of lecturing to be proceeded with. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—G.W.C.T., Bro. J. A. Efford, ChristchuTcb; G.W.0., Bro. Z. Sands, Geraldine ; G.W. Vice. Bro. A. J. Bennett, Wellington ; G.W. Secretary, Bro. D. Cameron, Dunedin (re-elected) ; G.W. Treasurer, Bro. W. Carr, Dunedin (reelected) ; E.W. Chaplain, Rev. K. Toul, Rangiora; G.W.M., Bro. Simpson; G.S.J.T., Bro. E. G. Allsworth, Wanganui. The installation was conducted by the W.G. Templar of Australasia, Bro. J. W. Jago. In the evening Bro. Jago delivered a lecture on temperance. Yesterday the formal business was concluded, and the Lodge adjourned to meet at Oamaru in Easter week, 1883.
