LONDON.

December 6

It is stated that the parleying which for some time past has been proceeding between the English and French Governments has failed to bring about an understanding regarding the settlement of affairs in Egypt, and that the French Government have now declined to accept the proposals made by the English Consul. The rumor has not, however, received any reliable confirmation.

The Alhambra Theatre, Leicester Square, was destroyed by fire to-day. Anthony Trollope, the novelist, who has been seriously ill for some time past, died to-day, aged 67. At to-day's wool sale 10,100 bales were offered, and an active demand for all descriptions was experienced.
