Auckland v. Otago

Dunedin, November 25

The match, Auckland v. Otago, was commenced on tbe Caledonian grounds at noon yesterday. Otago won the toss, and elected to go in first. The wickets were somewhat hard and bumpy, and the weather was splendid. Otago sent in Leith and Greenwood to the bowling of Gill and Lankbam. Greenwood was bowled by Gill the second ball, making no run. Leith was well held shortly after by Dufaur, at the wicket. 2—10—14. Pardes, the next man, was given out leg before wicket after getting two singles. 3—2—23. Fleming followed, but put almost the first ball into Blair's hands at point. 4—0—28. Hollgate the next man, was beautifully bowled by Gill before he scored. 5—0—29. Sketch took his place, and Gill was too much for him, and with the score at 29 he fell a victim to one of Gill's, being clean bowled. Hadfield made a short stand, and put together nine including two threes. Harris was neatly caught by Arneil at leg, after getting 19. Ivens, an old Auckland man, got 9, not out. Andrews was unable to play owing to having hurt his side, and Ivens was tbe substitute. Trestro longstopped splendidly, only allowing one bye. Gill bowled 13 overs for 38 runs and 6 wickets, and Lankham 13 overs for 17 runs and 4 wickets. According to tbe latest reports the home team have four wickets down for 64 runs. November 25. In the cricket match at Castlemaine yesterday the local twenty-two, in tbeir first innings, scored 136 runs. At the close of the day's play the Englishmen had lost no wickets for nine runs.
