A settler named C. Claxton, residing near Featherston, was yesterday afternoon drowned in the Tauherenikau river. The body has not yet been recovered. An inquest is to be held on the recent fire at Newton.
Nothing has yet been done with regard to filling the vacancy of Assistant Crown Law Officer.
