NAPIER HOSPITAL COMMITTEE.
The Committee met yesterday after- / | noon in the Council Chamber. Present. - — His Worship the Mayor (chairman)', Messrs Douglas M'Lean, C. B. Winter, C. L. Margoliouth, J. A. Smitb, J. Bennett, H. Williams, H. A. Banner, M. R. Miller, and H. H. Wall. VISITING COMMITTEE. _ The visiting committee in their report recommended as follows :—That the fire insurance on the building be increased by £1000 ; that the hospital be distempered throughout at a cost of £48 ss; that a new urinal be fitted up in the male ward ; that the windows in the quadrargle lighting the passages to the male and female wards be made to open and swing inwards, and tbat if practicable similar similar windows be placed over the ward doors; that the building be painted —* throughout when the new wing is being done; that a filter bo procured and placed in the hall; that two hospital tents, with a bell tent, be ordered through the Government ; that the matron purchase crockery required ; that more ac> commodation is required for the outpatients attending at the hospital, or a dispensary iv town in connection with
the hospital; that the drugs should be imported from Home duty free, effecting a saving of about £190 per annum; that the secretary be instructed to write to tbe clergy inviting tbem to hold a Hospital Sunday on behalf of the building fund, and that a collection be taken up in all the boxes for the same purpose; that the secretary apply to the Hawke's Bay County Council for their second moiety of £125 for the same _ purpose ; that further accommodation is required for the stores; that the gasoline be sold for whatever it will fetch, and the room it occupies utilised for furnishing further tber accommodation.
The Mayor and Messrs Miller and Banner, were appointed a committee to consider and report on the clause in tbe visiting committee's report with regard to the establishment of a dispensary. The report was then adopted, and the recommendations ordered to be carried out. GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY. A letter was read from the Colonial Under-Secretary, stating that the Government would give £1 for £1 towards the building and support of tbe hospital during the present year, and were gratified to see the interest taken in tbe institution, and the liberal assistance afforded to it, by the people of Napier and surrounding district. The secretary was instructed to forward to the Government the maintenance vouchers from 31st March to 30th September. THE NEW WING. The following tenders for a new wing to the hospital, providing for 20 beds, were opened, but in the absence of funds the matter was remitted back to tbe building committee:--Lucas and Humphreys, £2204; D. Glendinning, £2069; A. J. B. Howe, £1800 ; C. Dolbel, £1862 17s. MISCELLANEOUS. It was resolved that the secretary's stipend be fixed at £100 a year, and that he be requested to send in a monthly account of travelling and extra expenses. The Mayor and Mr Margoliouth were appointed as tbe visiting committee for the month. i A number of accounts were passed for payment, and the Oommitte adjourned.
