An ex-policeman named Lawrie, now a fishmonger, had a fight recently with James Rigby, who was connected with Woodyear's circus. Rigby had one eye gouged out, but it was replaced, and the top of one finger bitten off. Lawrie was so knocked about as to require medical aid, and was unable to appear in the Police Court yesterday to answer the charge of assaulting Rigby. The case was remanded.

Yesterday being the last day of the present circuit sessions of the Supreme Court, William Rattray, civil servant, committed for trial on a charge of embezzlement, was formally called on to surrender, but there was no response, and the recognisances of his sureties were ordered to be estreated

During the month ending yesterday there were registered at Wellington 100 births, and 63 deaths, and 24 certificates of marriage were issued.
