DIOCESAN SYNOD.

The Synod met at 4 p.m. Present: The Bishop of Waiapu (President), Archdeacon Williams, the Revs. H. W. St. Hill, De Berdt Hovel], S. Williams, H. Maclean, E. H. Granger, A. C. Soutar, C. Jordon, S. M. Spencer, J. O. Eccle9, O. L. Tuke, J. Hill, Messrs C. A. Fitzßoy, T. K. Newton, W. Ellison, R. O. Pasley, T. Morrison, G. A. Oliver, J. Nairn, T. Tunks, J. J. Buchanan, Montague H. Smith J. B. Fielder, H. Wilding, J. Thornton, A. J. Cotterill, M. R. Miller, H. Hill, and G. Pritcbard. The following were appointed assessors of the Bishop's Court :—Archdeacon William?, Rcve. Samuol WUl'ams, De Berdt Hovell, H. W. St. Hill, B. H. Q-ranger, Charles Jordan, and Messrs J. B. Fielder, T. K. Newton, R. C. Pasley, W. I. Spencer, J. Thornton, and H. S. Tiffen. The Rev. De Berdt Hovell moved, " That the Synod go into committee to consider the present position and future prospects of the Diocesan Fund." The motion was seconded by Mr Fitzßoy, and carried, and the Synod went into committee. The Rev. De Berdt Hovell then moved, " That the standing committee be requested to take into consideration without delay the possibility of placing the Diocesan Fund upon a better basis." Considerable discussion ensued, Mr Hovell eventually withdrawing his motion in favor of an amendment submitted by Mr Thornton, explaining that the object he had in view had been attained. Mr Thornton's amendment wag then put. It was as follows:—" That the lay representatives of the Synod be constituted a committee to forward the object of the Diocesan Fund, and to report to the standing Committee."—Carried. The Synod having gone into committee, the Yen. Archdeacon Williams moved to omit the following words in the select committee's report:—"A statement of the difficulty may be forwarded to the Bishop of the Diocese, signed by not less than two-thirds of the communicants of the parish, a copy of such statement being at the came time furnished to the curate." Several amendments to the Archdeacon's motion were proposed, but were lost, the original motion being carried with a few slight alterations. The Synod then adjourned.
