September 15. Parliament was prorogued this afternoon until the 14th December.
Mr DeLautour was to-day in Chambers admitted as Barrister of the Supreme Court by Judge Richmond under the new Act.
The gold medal which Messrs Joubert and Twopenny had struck off for presentation to Her Majesty the Queen, to celebrate the opening ot the Christchurch Exhibition, was sent home by His Excellency the Governor, and presented to Her Majesty by Earl Kirnberley, from whom a despatch has been received conveying an expression of thanks from the Queen to the promoters of the exhibition. The New South Wales football team arrived this morning by the Hawea, and landed in pelting rain. Should the weatber continue it will be impossible to play the match to-morrow. Owing to some dissatisfaction in the selection of the local team the committee have reconeidered the matter, and have selected Brown to take the place of Campbell. The Union Steamship Company have agreed to issue return tickets at single fares to members of the New Zealand Rifle Association attending the competition atDunedin in November next.
It is uuderstood that a considerable area of Crown land will shortly be thrown open for leasing under the provisions of the new Land Act.
A human skull has been found at Evans Bay. It is believed to be that of a female, and has the appearance of having been under the earth for some years.
