WELLINGTON.
September 11. The captain of the steamer Jane Douglas, which arrived from Foxton last night, states that the ketch Recatuia, which was loaded in Foxton river and ready to sail for Lyttelton, sprung a leak on Saturday, and bad to be beached. The Recamia is owned in Lyttelton. Her cargo of timber, about 40,000 feet, is insured in the National office for £200.
The barque Kentish Lass was floated off on Saturday afternoon's tide without any difficulty. She has not sustained any damage.
A Targe and brilliant comet between north-east and east was visible here at 4.15 on Saturday morning. The comet has a large head, pointed towards the earth, and is lost sight of at about 5 o'clock.
The steamer Wakatu went ashore at Patea yesterday morning. There are no particulars yet as to her position, but it is understood that she is not likely to sustain serious damage. She is insured for £4000 in the South British, but the greater portion is re-insured.
