September 7. The Bank of Australasia has declared a dividend of six per cent, for the past halfyear. At the wool sale to-day the catalogue comprised 11,500 bales. Fine sorts were in very good demand. Since the opening of the present series 14,000 bales have been withdrawn. September 8. Intelligence is to hand that the difficulty which has existed for some time past between Japan and Corea has now been arranged. Under the terms of settlement the latter kingdom will pay the indemnity which was demanded by the Japanese Government. The majority of the Irish police constables who were dismissed for beiDg the promoters of the recent agitation are now being reinstated by Earl Spencer, the Lord-Lieutenant, and have returned to duty. September 9. A despatch has been received to-day from Sir Garnet Wolseley, timed noon, regarding the engagement fonght this morning near Kassassin. Sir Garnet reports that the enemy in great force were [ observed reconnoitreing the British outposts at daybreak. The order was at once given for them to be attacked, and after a somewhat brief engagement they were repulsed with very heavy loss, and four guos were captured. The loss on our side was slight. After their defeat the enemy retired to their lines at Tel-el-Kebir, their artillery meanwhile firing at long range upon the British forces. The latter have since returned to Kassassin, where the head-quarters of the army now are.
