TimWbiffler 1 Hilda 2 Lara 3 HANDICAP HURDLVS. Rawenata 1 Lonehand 2 Clarence 3 AUCKLAND CUP. King Quail 1 Hilda 2 Kenilworth 3 Foul Play, Yatapa, Othello, Vortex, Envy filly, and Rawenata were scratched. Betting : 6 to 4 on the Peeress colt, 4 to 1 on King Quail and Kenilworth, 3 to 1 on Maori, and 10 to 1 on anything else. A field of twelve being left all were more or less backed. There was great difficulty in getting a good start, but at last they got off with a moderately fair start. The Poet sprang to the front, and led to the back of the course, followed by Maori, the others falling off, Lara last but one, and Moonstone last. King Quail and Kenilworth were in the centre division. Kenilworth and Hilda, who were racing very strongly improved their position at the cutting. Quail heaved up with a rush and came to terms successively with all the leaders, and occupying the premier position on entering the straight he maintained the lead to tbe finish, and won by a length from Hilda, Kenilworth third, Lara a good fourth.
