CHRISTCHURCH.
December 17.
During the return of the excursion steamer Penguin from Akaroa, a seamen named William Gunn fell overboard. A life buoy was thrown, and it fell within two feet of him, but he neglected to seize it, and made for the shore. A boat was lowered, but failed to reach him in time, and Gunn was drowned. He was a young man, and joined the steamer in Dunedin on September 28th last.
