THE RECENT ELECTION.

[To the Editor of the Daily Teleoeath.] Sir, —The Napier newspapers seem very much troubled about a few cases of what they are pleased to call double voting and impersonation at the last elections. Has it never struck you that some, if not all, these irregularities are due to Taistakeß made by the returning officers, some of whom were quite incompe—well, were not the smartest men in the universe, anyway. While I was waiting to record my vote the returning officer made a very serious mistake, and I have heard of several others. Au imputation of dishonesty has been cast upon those who probably are not to blame.—l am, &c,

An Electob. Napier, December 15, 1881.
