At the declaration of tbe poll the numbers were—Smith, 579; Ormond, 554 ; majority, 25. Mr Smith returned thanks to his supporters, and also to his opponents for tbe fair manner in which be had been treated, and said he would do bis utmost for all parts of the district, and hoped his actions iv the future as their representative would be endorsed by a large majority of the electors. Everything passed off quietly.
