The Minister of Agriculture stated in the Assembly on the C th that the Government would probably let the experimental farm at Dookie to a number of gentlemen who are about to establish an Agricultural College. In committee ia the Assembly thirteen
clauses of the Protection of Animals Bill were passed with slight modification. At the same sitting it was agreed that no motion for adjournment should be put unless it was supported by six members. The Van Vein water supply account shows a surplus of £48,000. The receipts for the year were over £100,000. A skilfully forged Crown grant, on which £800 had been advanced, was discovered on the sth. The matter is under investigation. Two miners have been killed at Eagle Hawk. While in a cage descending to work the rope broke, and the cage fell and the men were killed instantaneously.
