LONDON.

September 28

The ship Seiriol Wyn, 1066 tons from London to Sydney, came into collision with a brig whose name was not ascertained when in the channel off Eastbourne, near Beacby Head, the Seiriol Wyn was considerably damaged and was obliged to put back to Gravesend for repairs, part of her cargo was thrown overboard, nothing has since been heard of the brig. At the wool sales to-day 9200 bales were catalogued, and a firm and active demand was experienced. Prices generally for all descriptions of wool now rule one halfpenny higher than at the close of last sales. A meeting of Irish Bishops has been held, at which resolutions were passed expressing an opinion that the authors of the Irish Land Act are entitled to the gratitude of the tenantry, recommending the latter to utilise fully the benefits provided by the measure, and warning them against secret agencies or acts of violence and intimidation. A resolution further expressed the opinion that it is desirable that an amnesty should be granted to prisoners now in custody under the Coercion Act.
