THE BOXING DAY RACES.

[To the Editor of the Daily Telegraph.] fc'iß, —" Progress "in tbis morning's issue of the Herald makes a number of accusations against the H. 8. Racing Club for holding a meeting on Boxing Day at Pukowhai. I will try and deal "with those in the order in which they are made. It was unanimously decided at a full meeting of the committee, in consequence of there being no races held at Hftveloek (his season, that it was ad visible to bold a meeting at Pakowhai on that day. The meeting at Petane last year was held at the invitation and by the assistance of the owner of the course and other members of that club, and it was understood at the time the programme was drawn that the clubs would amalgamate. The club did not lose one single member on that account, or by fixing the 12th October for their spring meeting. If evidence is required of our ability to stand alone it is in the fact of our holding meetings when it pleases us, and think we can pet the attendance and support of the public, which we are satisfied will be the case at Pakowhai whether there ia a meeting at Hastings or not. If" Progress" will call at the office of the Daily Telegraph, the editor will furnish him with my name and address. I shall possibly convince him that there is at least one member of the H.B. Racing Club not disposed to crawl either to him or the H.H Jockey Club. There are so many parasites there already that there would not be room to bold one. In conclusion I say, Sir, that a person that will make unfounded accusations of this kind is a fitting associate for the " Heathen Chinee."—l am, &c,
